Event Information

Title: Using AI to Quickly Identify Damage After Severe Weather Events

Description:

Training Summary: Take your Geographic Information Systems (GIS) work to the cloud! Learn about an efficient and interactive cloud-based workflow to process a large amount of satellite imagery. You will apply an AI-recognition algorithm through Google’s Vertex AI platform and generate business-centered insights using Google Earth Engine.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn about Could IAM using a service account to authenticate with Google services.  Next, they will learn to spin up a virtual machine in Vertex AI and execute a labeling task required to automatically recognize damaged buildings in an AOI. Participants will visualize data for an AOI pre- and post- tornadoes in Google Earth Engine and validate the trained AI-recognition algorithm called SKAI.

Prerequisites: Some Python knowledge is required.

An account registration for a trainee license of Google Earth Engine (https://uc.appengine.google.com/_ah/conflogin?state=~AJKiYcHhDySKdeEaJ_0JhH0a5ApDlWCtOrY5MSDZ2YN4wgS5XP6EO5xGO2ukwXJLgJpKPd4DH81-f9aEwvmZr8fXnG4hV0WYN8YEMCpdWNdyQXvjIKbyU4GsNQ6QbVl126RYDm1QyMx2l9NBjtjBzHMlwCLklcGjdwY53sPmjRx1NsJ6n6hnpnwOpKG-KHhciWH8-X3HslER&pli=1#!/) and Google Cloud Platform (https://cloud.google.com/free) are required.
